Due Diligence Tips: The Operator

Cold Callers Can Often Leave You ‘Out in the Cold’

Of the roughly 10,000 oil & gas companies in the U.S. today, few need to solicit investor capital by cold calling over the phone. Successful and well-established companies are typically able to raise capital through their own profits and via their loyal investor base.

As for those Operators that do need to cold call you while you’re at home eating your dinner, you have to ask yourself, “Why?”

Perhaps they are not yet established and are just starting out with a view to building a brand new investor base. Or perhaps they have been around for a while but were not able to keep their investor base happy. This second group you definitely need to avoid. And the first group should be examined with a high degree of scrutiny before you seriously consider making an investment. Once again, only by doing rigorous due diligence can you determine how legitimate these Operators really are.
